Okay, I know it’s not technically halfway through the year, but I’ve already watched 35 movies—and for someone who’s also deep into TV, that’s kind of wild. So I figured, why not share the standouts that have really stayed with me?
I saw most of the big Oscar contenders (Conclave, Anora, The Brutalist, Sing Sing). All were really good—but if I’m being honest? I wouldn’t rush to rewatch them. They didn’t hit me in the heart the way these next films did. These are the ones that made me laugh, cry, think, or just feel totally immersed.
Let’s dive in…
🎸 A Complete Unknown
Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan? Yes, please. I loved this film. It gave me such a deeper understanding of Dylan’s early days—his rebellious spirit, musical genius, and complicated relationship with Joan Baez. The Elvis bits were fun, too! It felt like a masterclass in staying true to your voice, no matter the noise.
🎖 Warfare
I always say I’m not a war movie person… and yet, this one got to me. It moved me—on a deeper level. The performances were powerful, and it served as a reminder of what soldiers endure and the ripple effects of conflict. A really impactful watch.
🦇 Sinners
Wow. This was a standout. A story about music, passion, family—and vampires! The cast delivered, the Choctaw vampire hunters were so impactful (even in just a few scenes), and Michael B. Jordan playing twins? Chef’s kiss. Ryan Coogler really delivered something special here.
🕶 Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
Tom Cruise, you madman. At 62, still out here clinging to airplanes going 150 MPH. This movie was epic—his stunts, his commitment, everything. I was on the edge of my seat… and also silently begging him to do a courtroom drama next. Please?
🔫 The Accountant 2
Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal as brothers? Yes! This sequel was a surprise—I wasn’t expecting it to lean into the comedy so much, but it worked. Still action-packed, but also touching and fun in its own way.
💥 The Gorge
Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy had electric chemistry in this wild ride. The film had heart, chaos, and charm—and I was in. So fun to watch these two go toe-to-toe and fall in love in the most unexpected way.
👨🚀 Mickey 17
Robert Pattinson in a sci-fi brain-bender? Count me in. This one was trippy and deep, but I really enjoyed it. The concept, the visuals—it stuck with me more than I expected.
📝 The Life List
A touching, heartfelt streaming pick. A young woman grieving her mom finds a list she This one got me. A young woman, grieving the loss of her mother, is left something unexpected—not money or property, but a life list she wrote as a teen. Her mom wants her to go out and live fully, to chase joy and rediscover herself. It’s heartfelt, emotional, and yes, I cried. It’s such a beautiful, hopeful film about healing and love.
👹 Your Monster
This one caught me totally off guard—in the best way. It’s part fantasy, part horror, part rom-com… and somehow, it works. Think Beauty and the Beast with a quirky, emotional twist. It was charming, spooky, and surprisingly heartfelt. One of those hidden gems that lingers with you.
🥋 Karate Kid: Legends (Watched June 1st, and yes I’m including it!)
This was such a feel-good watch. Nostalgic, emotional, entertaining. Critics were a little harsh, but I loved the underdog energy—even though our hero was pretty good at kung fu. The grief, the brotherhood, the choice to fight for others—it all landed. Heart over perfection for me!
So, that's 35 movies—and counting!
Some made me cheer (Karate Kid Legends), some made me cry (The Life List), and some just totally won me over with their creativity and heart (Sinners). I’ll probably do a full Top 10 at the end of the year—but for now, these are the ones that truly stood out.
🎥 What’s hit you this year? Drop your faves—I’m always adding to the list!
