The Golden Globes were fun and entertaining this year, not my favorite awards show, but definitely watchable. There were a few hiccups, but overall it was enjoyable seeing the winners, hearing some great acceptance speeches, and watching a room full of celebrities celebrate film and TV together.
Hamnet winning Best Motion Picture – Drama felt deserved. One of the night’s better moments came when executive producer Steven Spielberg spoke briefly before handing the stage to director Chloé Zhao, who was clearly surprised. Her speech felt genuine, and I loved that she took time to acknowledge Ryan Coogler and his work on Sinners.
A Battle After Another winning Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical was also a strong choice. The performances across the board were impressive. Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, and Teyana Taylor all delivered. Teyana Taylor’s Supporting Actress win was well deserved and felt like recognition of how strong the entire ensemble was. Won Best Director and Screenplay too!
Timothée Chalamet winning for Marty Supreme was not a surprise at all. I even talked about his performance on TikTok. He has been building toward this for a while, especially after his work as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown last year. He won the SAG, and while that Oscar did not happen then, maybe this is his year. His speech was short, thoughtful, centered on gratitude, and it really landed.
On the TV side, The Pitt winning Best Drama Series and Noah Wyle taking Best Male Performance were definite highlights. It was especially cool seeing Wyle win. I remember watching him as a newbie on ER, and now he is back in an ER setting, but this time as the seasoned veteran with seniority. That full-circle moment made the win even better.
The Studio also had a great night with Seth Rogen taking home a win for his performance. I even made a TikTok because I loved it. The show is so smart, fun, and entertaining. It was kind of meta too, since he did an episode about being on the Golden Globes and not being thanked, which was hilarious. He even mentioned it when he won the award, making the moment extra funny and satisfying. I was thoroughly impressed, and it was awesome to see the show recognized alongside other strong winners.
Adolescence had a big night, winning Best Limited Series along with acting wins for Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, and Owen Cooper. A well-deserved sweep.
Jean Smart winning again for Hacks was a solid win, even if it was not one of my personal standouts of the night.
Sinners had a mixed night. It won Cinematic or Box Office Achievement and Best Original Score, which is a huge artistic win, though announcing the score award during a commercial was a miss. That category deserves to be celebrated on air. I was a little bummed they didn’t win more since this was one of my favorite films of 2025.
A few other fun notes:
KPop Demon Hunters winning Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song was a great surprise.
The new Podcast category was fun to see included. Good Hang With Amy Poehler, winner!
Nikki Glaser did a decent job hosting, sharp and a little edgy, and the show moved along well.
JLo looked AMAZING! She knows how to wear a dress.
Overall, the Golden Globes were enjoyable, not perfect, not my favorite, but a solid kickoff to awards season. Now bring on the Oscar nominations. 🎬✨
