Emmys 2025: Wins, Wows, and One Weird Rule

Updated: Sep 17

What. A. Night. 🎬✨ The 2025 Emmys gave us incredible wins, a few surprises, and… a very questionable 45-second speech rule. Let’s dive in!

The 45-Second Rule (aka the “Wait, What?” Moment)

So here’s the deal: winners had 45 seconds to give their speeches. If they went over, money was “taken away” from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Talk about pressure! It made some speeches feel rushed, and if someone went long, it looked like they were being greedy!!!! Which is not the vibe you want at the Emmys.

Now, in the end, they donated more money anyway (which is wonderful), but the whole shtick? Didn’t love it. I want to see winners savor their big moment!

The Wins I Loved

✨ The Studio: Talk about domination! Seth Rogen’s Apple TV+ comedy snagged 13 awards, including Best Comedy, Best Lead Actor, and writing/directing, plus a ton of technical wins. Seth even joked, “I’m embarrassed by how happy this makes me.” Same, Seth. Same.

✨ Severance: My heart! This show walked away with 8 Emmys. Britt Lower (Lead Actress) and Tramell Tillman (Supporting Actor) were incredible this season, and both got their well-deserved statues. Add in wins for cinematography, music, production design, sound, title design, and Merritt Wever as Guest Actress, and you’ve got one stellar haul. Tramell especially blew me away — so thrilled for him!

✨ Adolescence: Netflix did it again. Another 8 wins, including Best Limited Series, and it basically swept the category. This show has been living rent-free in my head since I watched it, so seeing it clean up was extra satisfying.

✨ The Pitt: Old-school drama for the win! With 5 Emmys, including Best Drama and Best Actor for Noah Wyle, this series proves there’s still room for classic, character-driven storytelling. Love that the TV academy recognized it.

✨ Hacks: Jean Smart is unstoppable. Her 4th Emmy for Lead Actress in a Comedy just adds to her legendary status. I haven’t even finished the season yet, but I’m cheering anyway!

A Little Emmy Heartache

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t bummed that The Bear walked away empty-handed. It’s still one of my favorite shows and always brings so much heart and tension. Hopefully, next year’s Emmys will give it some love!

Final Thoughts

Despite the awkward 45-second rule, this year’s Emmys were such a win for me because so many of my favorites (The Studio, Severance, Adolescence, The Pitt) were celebrated.

What about you? Which wins had you cheering? And how did you feel about the speech rule? Drop your thoughts. I’d love to hear them!

Until next time, keep watching, keep exploring, and keep those screens in focus. 💛
